Open Data Day is a global celebration that highlights the importance of open data in promoting transparency, innovation, and community engagement. This year, we had an incredible time at UNICAM, where students, faculty, and locals came together to contribute to OpenStreetMap (OSM) and enjoy a day filled with fun activities.

Our Open Data Day Experience

On March 7th, UNICAM was buzzing with excitement as we embarked on our mission to enhance the map of Camerino. Equipped with smartphones, GPS devices, and notebooks, we formed groups and set out to map streets, buildings, and points of interest around the city. It was inspiring to see experienced mappers guiding newbies and everyone working together to contribute to OSM.

Back on campus, we had some fantastic workshops:

  • Introduction to OpenStreetMap: A perfect session for beginners, providing an overview of OSM and how to get started.
  • Advanced Mapping Techniques: Tips and tricks from seasoned mappers on efficient data collection and editing.
  • The Importance of Open Data: Discussions on how open data fosters transparency, innovation, and community spirit.
